The letter which arrived at the Yated office on Monday, 21 Sivan 5772 from HaGaon HaRav Chaim Kanievsky Shlita was clear, stating the leadership of the generation has been handed over from Maran Posek HaDor HaGaon HaRav Yosef Sholom Elyashiv Shlita to HaGaon HaRav Aaron Leib Shteinman Shlita,
The rav writes that the ‘hanhagas hador’ has moved to Rav Shteinman, adding the Yated Newspaper started by his father, the Steipler ZATZAL, and Maran Rav Shach ZATZAL, is now under Rav Shteinman’s leadership as well.
Rav Kanievsky speaks of the firing of veteran general-manager Yaakov Lavin, expressing his unwavering support for the changing of the guard, requesting the same from others involved.
The rav praises the outgoing leadership, their commitment to their mission, as well as calling for backing of the new team running the newspaper which is the voice to the tzibur of Degel HaTorah.

As I have a very special relationship with HaRav HaGaon R’ Chaim Kanievsky SHLITA — through his Sforim and a Brachah he so graciously granted me — I sincerely hope he will allow me to consider him as my personal Gadol HaDor.

I don’t understand this report. What is the big Chiddush? We were told this when Rav Shach was niftar, that Rav Shteinman was the Manhig HaDor. What changed now? Or did Rav Kanievsky not know about the news from then?
Avraham – I think he was only saying that HaGaon HaRav Aaron Leib Shteinman Shlita is the Manhig HaDor, but I think it’s still possible that HaGaon HaRav Chaim Kanievsky Shlita will remain a/the Gadol HaDor, maybe they can both be the gedolei hador.
How many titles can you give to a person before the titles become meaningless? Whatever happened to “Rav” or “Rabbeinu”?
you guys are so misinformed. Rav Kanievsky and Rav Shteinman are two amazing tzadikim. But one of the true qualities that Rav Shteinman has that Rav Kanievsky recognizes is a leadership. he no matter his age, understands the issues all the way and paskens in a very relevant and smart way. Rav Kanievsky doesn’t take up political or social issues really. he’s a leader of the generation cus of his torah but not by personality.
