this morning as I was davening , I realized that one tefilla that I never have kavanna by is Az Yashir cuz I just don’t feel any personal connection with it.
Does anyone know why we recite Az Yashir every day, and what kavanna we are supposed to have while doing it?
Thank you, and gmar chasima tova!

What kavana should you have? The meaning of the words.
The Wolf
(* Yes, I know that that leads to “why is it part of davening. That, I don’t know.)

(Quoting from the Siddur Vilna)
The Avudraham says that it is a zecher to Yetzias Mitzrayim.
The Machzor Vitri says that we say it because it was a custom in the Jewish communities of Rome, Spain, and those surrounding them, from the day we were exiled from Jerusalem until now, to sing it all year every day, and “Minhag avoseinu Torah hee”.
Also, we say this Shira which is about the fall of our enemies, and to praise the One Who does wonders, and to bless His name before and afer these praises (Baruch Sheamar and Yishtabach.)
Hope this helps!

And feel joy and thankfulness for the great Chassadim we experienced at Kriyas Yam Suf. And for the ones we experience, not as open Nissim, but also as great lovingkindness, in our daily lives. It’s all in line with the general theme of P’sukei D’Zimrah– Praise and thankfulness.
